Wendron Church

Wendron Church, a stunning example of medieval architecture dating back to the 14th and 15th centuries, has been the focus of careful restoration efforts.

  • Our initial project, undertaken in 2009, involved replacing the timberwork and leadwork in the inner valleys and roof slopes, along with installing new slating.

Following significant fundraising and grant support, we were invited back to continue the restoration work. A covered roof scaffold was erected to shield the site from water ingress, allowing us to safely strip the remaining outer roof slopes. We carried out essential timber repairs, replaced the porch roof completely, and installed new Delabole slates on all slopes. To prevent dampness, leadwork was added under the gable coping stones, many of which were in poor condition and required replacement by a skilled local stonemason.

In addition, we installed new guttering and downpipes throughout. Cement pointing on the tower and gables was replaced with lime mortar, allowing the building to breathe and ensuring its longevity. This meticulous restoration ensures that Wendron Church will remain a cherished heritage site for generations to come.
