The Cider House

The restoration of Godolphin’s cider house is a remarkable feat, preserving a historic gem for future generations while breathing new life into its structure.

  • Once in a precarious state, the building, supported by telegraph poles and hidden under scaffolding for five years, has now been beautifully revived, showcasing the power of dedication and craftsmanship.

KPK Builders executed the conservation with precision, faithfully replicating original methods where possible. Modern conservation techniques were also employed, fully insulating and heating the cider house to create a functional, sustainable space. Accessibility was given priority, with the installation of a lift making the first floor usable for all.

The restoration also considered the natural environment, incorporating barbastelle bat roosts and a bat camera beneath the external granite steps. These thoughtful additions ensure that the cider house not only serves people but also supports local wildlife, making it an exemplary project of historical preservation and ecological awareness.
