Penryn Town Hall

The restoration and repair of Penryn Clock Tower was a comprehensive project that aimed to preserve and protect this Grade II Listed Building while addressing critical structural and functional issues.

  • As developers, we were entrusted with carrying out extensive remedial works to ensure the long-term integrity and functionality of this historic landmark.

Key aspects of the project included extensive timber repairs throughout the structure, addressing areas weakened by age and exposure. Careful attention was given to providing lead capping weathering details to the corbelled sections and pediments over the window elevations, enhancing protection against the elements. Weathering around the windows and louvres was also improved to prevent water ingress, while flaunching details to the bell casts and band courses were refined at all levels for added durability.

The project also involved meticulous raking out and re-pointing sections of stonework, focusing on areas with moss growth and open joints, particularly along the band courses. These measures were essential to stabilize the masonry and restore its original appearance.

Throughout this project, our team worked in alignment with the survey results and recommendations, ensuring all interventions were sensitive to the building’s listed status. The completion of these works not only safeguarded the structural and historical significance of Penryn Clock Tower but also provided a renewed sense of functionality and pride for the local community.
